Sheep Shearing

Geraldine Heffernan was born and raised on the Isle of Arran in Scotland. She grew up on a sheep and cattle farm with seven siblings. While in Scotland she attended agriculture college. Geraldine successfully completed a shearing course when she was 17, and helped with the shearing on her father's farm. She was trained to shear with blades or an electric shearing machine. When she was 21 she immigrated to Canada. She bought a farm and has been raising sheep there ever since. Geraldine travels throughout Ontario shearing. She will shear 125 sheep a day, but for larger flocks brings one or both of her sons to help. Outside of custom shearing she also cares for her own flock and has raised four children. Like any good Shepherd she cannot go very far on the farm without her border collie Gyp.

We welcome Geraldine back to the sheep dog trials!
